  • To no surprise the cross country powerhouse Panthers swept another meet. A week after winning its division of the Josh Park Memorial, defending 4A boys and girls state champion Heber Springs swept the Eagle Invitational in Greers Ferry. For good measure both of Heber's junior high teams also topped the team standings. Heber senior Brock Ballard won the senior boys' 5K and junior Malachi Cannon placed runner-up, while junior Mary Simmons finished runner-up in the senior girls' race. Crowley's Ridge's senior boys finished second as a team and Greenbrier took third. Greene County Tech's senior girls finished second as a team in front of third-place Harding Academy. Jesse Applewhite led the Junior Panthers to victory with a second-place finish in the junior boys' 2.5K race and Ali Jones placed third to pace the Junior Lady Panthers in their 2.5K race. Manila's junior boys placed second and Batesville took third, while Harding Academy took second and Greenbrier third in junior girls. Concord's Kaleah Davis placed second lead all area runners in the junior girls' race. Winners and Overall Area Results Sr. Boys (5K) 1. Brock Ballard Heber 17:47 2. Malachi Cannon Heber 17:54 10.
