New Research

Teenagers’ health habits may finally be stabilizing, according to a new study published Sept. 16 in the journal Pediatrics. Although the news is promising — teens are drinking less soda and are more physically active now than they were 10 years ago, for example — their body mass indexes also are increasing, and significantly.

Number to Know

240,000: Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among men in the United States. This year alone, an estimated 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 28,000 are estimated to die from the disease.

Senior Health

In a survey conducted of 1,407 people, one in two adults age 48 and older were not familiar with atrial fibrillation. Fifteen percent of all strokes are attributable to Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation, which is a type of irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem. AFib can lead to blood clots that can cause strokes.
