Barton's stingy defense collected 10 sacks on Friday night as the Class 3A No. 3 ranked Bears mauled Rose Bud, jumping out to a 32-0 halftime lead and cruising to a 35-7 victory in the 2-3A Conference opener at Rambler Stadium.
Jarrod Chandler, who recorded four sacks for Barton, returned the opening kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore running back Cameron Anderson, who ran six times for 108 yards, gave the Bears a 13-0 lead with a 48-yard scoring jaunt midway though the first quarter.
Fullback Quinton Simmons, who finished with 177 yards on seven carries, added a 7-yard touchdown run then quarterback Laquarius Hall found Justice Cole from 35 yards out as the Bears jumped out to a 25-0 lead early in the second quarter.
On Barton's next possession, Hall tacked on a 9-yard touchdown run, giving Barton a 32-0 lead, which they carried to halftime.
Justin Wilson booted a 28-yard field goal to implement the AAA's 35-point mercy-rule early in the fourth quarter.
Rose Bud junior running back Caleb Ferren, who carried 21 times for 103 yards, scored Rose Bud's lone touchdown on a 5-yard run with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Jesus Estrada added the extra-point, setting the final at 35-7.
The Bears' 10 sacks amounted to 72 yards in losses for the Ramblers, who travel to Class 3A No. 1 ranked Harding Academy on Friday. The Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) have won 18 consecutive games dating back to last season's run to the state championship.
