Concord's Luke Cornett polished off a stellar senior season by garnering medalist honors Wednesday in the 1A State golf tournament at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend. Cornett, who tied a course record with a 63 earlier this season at Cooper's Hawk in Melbourne, also won medalist last season while leading the Pirates to a state title. After scoring a triple bogey on hole No. 4, Cornett bounced back with a par on hole 5 then registered birdies on 6 and 7 while finishing with a round of 3-over 76, edging Armorel's Leyton Clark and Ouachita's Trent Burroughs by three strokes. “I am just real proud of him,” said Concord Coach Keith Cornett. “He has come a long way since his freshman year. I fully expected him to win medalist and he got the job done.” The defending champion Pirates placed runner-up as a team, 16 shots behind Ouachita, which won the team title with a total of 248. “Really proud of my other two kids,” said Cornett. “We just got beat by a better team. They just came out of nowhere on us.” Concord freshman Jacob Webb earned All-State honors with a round of 89, while sophomore TJ Richardson added a score of 99 to complete the Pirates' three-player total of 264. West Side also had a good showing, placing fourth overall with a score of 285 ¬ 15 strokes behind third place Ridgefield Christian (270). Tyler Cowley paced the Eagles with a score of 93, Austin Gray followed with a 95 and Hayden Gilmore chipped in a 97 to complete West Side's three player total. Lead Hill placed fifth (292), Sacred Heart sixth (301), Mount Vernon-Enola seventh (302), Taylor eighth (308), Caddo Hills ninth (309), Scranton 10th (311), Armorel 11th (312) and Cossatot River 12th (317).
