Have you ever wanted to start over, and to get it right this time? Let me tell you a true story.
This is a very special story of, Tina Baker, a very dedicated grandmother. Tina wanted to start over, and this time she wanted to get it right.
Tina is the grandmother of 7 with one more on the way. She is raising one, a 3 year old, and found herself with guardianship of that grandchild. It would have been wonderful if she would have been in great shape, but she wasn’t. She had been diagnosed with COPD which is Chronic, Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. If that wasn’t enough she also had been diagnosed with C H or Congestive Heart Failure. Oh-- and she was a little over 300 lbs and was in a wheel chair-part time. Now, under those conditions, was it easy taking care of a bouncy healthy 3 year old? No I am sure it wasn’t, although I haven’t heard her complain.
She was told to lose weight. She already knew she should. Finally she asked a doctor how to lose weight when she wasn’t able to exercise. The doctor said to get to a pool and just stand there. She began by just standing in the water, at first.
Tina joined Tops here in town, and goes to the pool generally 6 times a week. She uses the therapeutic pool. I noticed that she now moves continually while she is in the pool. She has changed the way she eats, eating healthier with meat, fruits and vegetables and eating no sugar. And she exercises regularly in the pool.
When I asked her what she attributed her success to, she said the words above “Pool and Dedication”.
She began this program last November, driving 26 miles each way to and from the pool. In one year she has lost 90 lbs. She plans on losing another 60. I feel as if she is an inspiration. I hope you do too.
If Tina can do this, so can any of us
Besides losing lots of excess weight she is off all her breathing medicines, and feels so much better. In other words she is getting the results she needs so much.
I asked her how to encourage others and she said you Never- Never- Never give up. Sounds like a Churchill saying to me.

There is another point I would like to bring out about Tina. She said she is doing this for her health, not just to lose weight. Without health you really don’t have anything at all.
Choices or Excuses
Concerning Goal Setting:
In working toward her goals some have told Tina that: “you can’t eat that.” Tina said “I can eat anything I want to.- I Choose not to eat some foods.” That is a very important difference.
Choices are empowering. So Tina is empowering herself. Excuses, on the other hand are not empowering. Excuses mean that you are sidestepping your choice, and they do not empower you.
This has not been easy. At times she considers it to be a struggle. Yet Tina feels as if it is well worth it, as it is giving her the improved health that she so desperately wants and needs.
I asked Tina if she had any final words. She said yes.
She said to do whatever ‘exercise you love. If you don’t love it, you won’t continue to do it.’
What do we learn from Tina’s Success Story? We learn what Tina is demonstrating. She changed her life, beginning with her diet. It went from being a SAD, a Standard American Diet to a healthy diet that works for her. She changed to eating protein, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and avoiding sugar and other trashy so called foods.
Also Tina became more active. She has been going to the pool, starting by only standing in it, and gradually increasing until she now moves continually, and she does this 6 times a week. She is dedicated to the pool and her new lifestyle.
Do what works for you…
Anyone of us can start over, and we can get it right this time too. It just takes a plan and dedication.
I hope you have enjoyed Tina’s Success Story. Maybe Tina’s story will inspire you as much as it has inspired me.
Just think, both you and those you love may benefit from Tina’s Success Story about the Pool and her Dedication.
