Sheriff Marty Moss will host a Prescription Drug Take Back Event on October 26th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Cleburne County Jail, 914 South 9th Street, in Heber Springs. This event is being held in conjunction with the Arkansas Drug Enforcement Administration's 7th National Prescription Drug Take Back Event.
Chief Teagus Majors of the Greers Ferry Police Department is also participating in the Annual Drug Take-Back. The address to drop off medications is 8739 Edgemont Road in Greers Ferry.
To date, over 32 tons of drugs have been collected and destroyed nationwide keeping them from being stolen from medicine cabinets and hitting the streets. Arkansas is the per capita 4th best performing state in DEA sponsored take back events, which is testimony to Arkansas' dedication to preventing prescription drug abuse and crime.
Citizens may deposit their medications in the prescription drug drop box located in the lobby of the jail during this take back event. Officers will be present to take medications from citizens who need to drive by and drop them off without getting out of their vehicle. Prescription drugs, over the counter medications, creams, inhalants, and syrups (in original container) can all be placed in the drop box; however, needles cannot be disposed of in this drop box. Citizens are encouraged to remove labels or mark over them before dropping them off.
All medications collected will be transported to the Arkansas State Police where they will be received by Arkansas Drug Enforcement Administration
