The 2013 Scare on the Square will be taking place on the square in downtown Heber Springs this Halloween, Thursday, October 31st, beginning at 5pm.
Ghouls, ghosts, heroes and villains. These are just a few of the Halloween treats to be seen on the square during this year’s 6th annual event. Hundreds of children and adults usually form lines around two sides of the courthouse to get their share of the pounds of candy being handed out from trunks on 3rd street during the wildly popular annual Trunk or Treating event. Businesses and organizations line the street to give the kids, and some of the adults, their special Halloween treats.
The winners of this year’s Scarecrow Stroll will be announced at 5pm. Photo from some of this year’s entries have been published in The Sun-Times and can be viewed in our photo gallery at www.thesuntimes.com.
We will have a costume contest,” said organizer Mary Margaret Couch. “This year they are going to change it up a bit by having “roving” judges. There will be no age categories, so if you want to impress the judges, look for the three individuals that have a “judge” badge on. We will announce the costume contest winners will be announced at 6:30. Seeing all the costumes is always my favorite part.”
Though there are some prospects of rain on Halloween, Couch is not determined not to let Mother Nature dampen the fun. “Bring your umbrellas,” said Couch. “Scare on the Square will still be going strong!”
