  • Mayflower quarterback Adam Dycus shredded the Ramblers' defense, passing for 557 yards and eight touchdowns while guiding the Eagles past Rose Bud 61-40 on senior night Thursday at Rambler Stadium.
Mayflower took a 6-0 lead only 58 seconds into the game when Dycus found receiver Madison Chambliss wide open over the middle for a 35-yard touchdown.
The Eagles, who improved to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in 2-3A Conference play, struck again on their next possession as Dycus rolled right and found Chambliss for a 5-yard touchdown with 7:33 left in the first quarter.
Down 12-0, Rose Bud (2-8, 0-7) countered with an 11-play, 55-yard scoring drive capped by junior running back Caleb Ferren, who sped around left end from one yard out on third and goal. Jesus Estrada's extra-point bounced off the left upright, leaving the Eagles' lead at 12-6 with 2:29 to go in the opening quarter.
Mayflower caught a break on its next possession when Dycus' first down pass was deflected into the arms of receiver Drew Duncan, who dodged a defender and cruised into the end zone for a 43-yard touchdown. Duncan kicked the extra-point, boosting the Eagles' lead to 19-6 with 49.2 seconds left in the first quarter.
After linebacker Trey McCann blew up a fourth down screen play, Rose Bud stayed in the game by covering 58 yards in nine plays, starting when junior quarterback Andrew
Adcock found senior fullback Daniel Strain over the middle for a 22-yard catch and run.
On fourth and short, senior running back Cole Robertson powered up the middle for three yards to move the chains.
Adcock added a 14-yard scramble, which set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Ferren, who burst through a gaping hole over left side. The two-point conversion failed, leaving Mayflower's lead at 19-12 with 8:18 left in the second quarter.
Mayflower retaliated quickly, this time covering 63 yards in five plays. Dycus found receiver Josh Woodham on a wheel route for 45 yards, which set up a 7-yard touchdown pass to Chambliss, who broke two tackles to reach the end zone on a pivotal third and goal play.
Trailing 25-12, the Ramblers once again cut their deficit to one score when Ferren found room over left side, shook a defender with a stutter-step at the 15 and raced to the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown with 4:48 left in the second quarter.
After trading possessions, Mayflower regained command when Dycus connected with Chambliss on a deep post route for a 50-yard touchdown. Dycus hit Garrett Taylor for two more points on the conversion, extending the Eagles' lead to 33-18 at halftime.
Dycus added three more touchdown passes in the second half as the Eagles glided to a 21-point victory.
