  • Izard County Consolidated versatile guard Taylor Reynolds sank six three-pointers while racking up a game-high 24 points, leading the Junior Cougars past Concord 44-28 on Friday night in Concord.
Concord opened up an early 5-0 lead as Mason McDonald hit three free throws sandwiched around a bucket by Kobe Konklin, but the Jr. Cougars responded, outscoring the Junior Pirates 12-3 over the final four minutes of the first quarter as forward Tyler Simino established a presence in the paint with five points.
After power forward Harold Chegue scored inside off an assist from McDonald, giving the Jr. Pirates an 8-6 lead, ICC closed to period with six straight.
The Jr. Cougars seized control early in the second quarter, starting when Reynolds hit two three-pointers, both launched from left corner. Chegue pulled down an offensive rebound and scored, but Reynolds buried another three-pointer, this time up top in transition.
Trailing 23-10, Concord guard Hunter Hartwick ripped a three-pointer from left wing before ICC scored six in a row, including a layup at the buzzer by Reynolds off an assist from guard Dallas Farmer.
Concord closed within 11 at 29-18 early in the third quarter as Chegue turned an offensive rebound into two free throws and McDonald converted a strong drive into an old-fashioned three-point play.
But Reynolds drilled a three-pointer from left wing and forward Tanner Brooks crashed the glass for a putback, giving the Jr. Cougars some breathing room.
The Jr. Pirates closed the third quarter with a 5-0 surge as Chegue flipped an offensive rebound into a three-point play and McDonald scored in heavy traffic, but ICC put the game out of reach by opening the fourth quarter with seven straight, including a three-pointer by Reynolds.
Following Reynolds' game-high 24 points, Simino had 10 and Brooks finished with six for ICC (6-2).
McDonald and Chegue each scored nine points to pace Concord.
