A refrigerated truck carrying a 40,000 pound load of food bound for Cranford’s Fresh World in White Hall caught fire at approximately 5 a.m., Thursday, near the Intersection of Highway 256 and Dollarway Road.

Luckily, the driver was not injured however the fire resulted in a complete and total loss for the truck, trailer and its contents. According to the driver, sparks flew from the truck as he was turning onto Dollarway Road giving him just enough time to straighten the rig out and get it stopped before he bailed and his fire extinguisher was no match for the fire that ensued. While the exact cause of the fire was not yet confirmed, officials on the scene did say they thought it was started with the refer unit.
Local law enforcement, city crews as well as Smith Wrecker Company and Foster’s Towing worked to clear the scene for more than six hours.
