An initial determination of death by accident has been issued by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in the death of an eight-year old Hope boy.
Hempstead County Coroner Ben Brazzel said Tuesday that the determination was made in response to the investigation into the death of the child by the Hope Police Department. Brazzel was called to Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope on Saturday where he pronounced the child deceased.
Hope Police Department Assistant Chief Kim Tomlin said in a press statement that HPD officers were called to the 1300 block of South Main Street about 2 p.m. Saturday concerning a medical emergency.
“Upon arrival, officers met with a man who was holding his unresponsive eight year old son,” Tomlin said. “Officers conducted CPR until Pafford EMS arrived on the scene.”
The child was taken to Wadley Regional from the scene, she said.
“It is believed that the cause of death is accidental,” Tomlin said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
No additional information on the investigation was available at press time Wednesday.
