McDonald's in Heber Springs was the scene of an armed robbery Monday morning
The relative peace of this holiday season was rocked in Heber Springs on Monday morning when an armed robbery took place outside of the McDonald’s on Hwy 25B.
According to the Heber Springs Police Department, the armed robbery took place shortly after 11am outside of the fast food restaurant. The suspect reportedly flashed a gun at a McDonald’s employee that was carrying an undisclosed amount of cash. The man, described as white male, possibly in his 20s, with shoulder length hair and about 5’8” to 5’10” tall, ran south with the cash behind a local business.
Three people, including one from a neighboring business, chased the man. Police have confirmed that the man was also carrying a knife and two of the women pursuing the man suffered minor injuries from the knife. The man then jumped at fence, at which point he got away.
“We are actively searching for this man,” said Heber Springs Police Chief Bobby Walker. “He left behind several items of evidence at the scene.” Those items include a white hoodie sweatshirt and a ball cap.
One employee of a neighboring business saw the pursuit in action. “We saw them chasing the guy,” said the employee. “The two women were chasing him and that’s when she (referring to an employee in their office) ran out to help. I saw them go down on the ground and then I called 911”
According to Chief Walker, police spent all night working on the case. He has asked anyone with any information that might help police find the assailant to call the Heber Springs Police Department at 501-362-8291.
