A $1.5 million expansion to the West 16th Street headquarters of Pafford Emergency Medical Services is in the completion phase, and the company has called for applicants for new dispatch center jobs. According to a resume of the jobs announcement, the company anticipates opening its expanded dispatch center in March. “The 15 position communications center will process 911 and non-emergency requests for Emergency Medical Services from our coverage area which spans multiple states,” the announcement states. “The center provides dispatch and support services to the fleet of Pafford EMS ground and air ambulance on a 24-hour basis, 365 days per year.” The company is calling for applicants ranging from entry level with no experience to experienced dispatch operators, with an interview window set for Jan. 16-18. A 30-day training period for entry level applicants who meet minimum requirements outlined by the company will begin Feb. 10, and applicants are required to attend each day of scheduled training. “Applicants must be professional, mature, team oriented, and customer service driven,” the announcement states. However, the company emphasizes in its solicitation that job duties are performed in an environment of stress in responding to calls for emergency aid. “Decisions must be made with little margin of error and consequences are usually seen immediately,” the resume states. “...Telecommunicators must conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism despite frequent contact with individuals who are distraught, angry and sometimes disrespectful.” Applicants are required to have a high school education or the equivalent, with two years of work or volunteer experience with public contact by telephone and computer use and data entry were part of their responsibilities; or, a college degree. Pafford has announced a two-phased expansion that will bring the company's billing, workman's compensation and dispatch functions to Hope. The 6,500-square foot adjunct to the firm's West 16th Street headquarters is nearing completion of the construction phase. The expansion of the dispatch services locally has been tied to a technology upgrade to the Pafford ambulance fleet, and will require the use of event data recorder systems in each ambulance, which will be monitored from the dispatch center, according to Pafford head Jamie Pafford-Gresham. Neither Pafford-Gresham nor Hobbs were available for comment on the announcement at press time Friday.
