  • The Concord Food Pantry is running low on food and needs assistance in order to keep operating, said Trudy Bruton, who has been arranging for shipments of food.
Without help, the pantry may have to close in April, she said.

This winter has been tough on the pantry, which missed out last fall on a grant it had hoped to get from the Arkansas Food Bank.
The pantry serves 90 families twice a month, which is a little over 300 people.

It is open every second Monday and fourth Monday of each month.

“We need some help from the community,” Bruton said.

The pantry is operated by unpaid volunteers, so all donations go to buy food, she said.
Concord Food Pantry is operated from the First Apostolic Church of Concord. The pickup point for food is at the church, right across state Highway 25 from Concord School and right by the Concord Post Office.
Anyone or any group or church that wants to donate may do so at any First Security Bank location via a visit, check or credit card. The account is listed as the First Apostolic Church Pantry account. The bank’s phone numbers are (501) 362-4899 in Heber Springs and (870) 269-7979 in Mountain View.

“Just call the bank and they’ll put it in that account,” said Bruton.

Donations can also be made to the First Apostolic Church Pantry account at the Arkansas Food Bank by calling Erin Chambers at the food bank at (501) 569-4321.
Donations go a long way because the pantry purchases its food from the Arkansas Food Bank for 18 cents a pound and receives bread, milk and produce free from the food bank.

For more information call Bruton at (870) 213-8079.

“We don’t want to see anybody go hungry,” she  said.
