  • Heber Springs defeated Conway St. Joseph (4-2), Pulaski Robinson twice (4-0, 9-4) and host Bauxite (8-4) to win the FCA Bauxite Tournament championship.
    In the Lady Panthers’ 4-2 victory over St. Joseph in the first round, center fielder Skye Miller led the way, finishing 2 for 3 with 2 runs, an RBI and 3 stolen bases. First base player Kaitlyn Bradke was also 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.
    Pitcher Tess Temple, third base player McKenzie Cresswell, left fielder Madi Fires, catcher Hannah Mangum and second base player Toni Bryant each contributed one hit. Shortstop Sarah Peeler and Mangum each drove home a run.
    Temple picked up the win, scattering six hits while striking out six and walking two in six innings for Heber, which fell behind 2-1 in the third before rallying with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
    The Lady Panthers advanced and beat Robinson 4-0 behind Cresswell, who struck out 10 and only allowed three hits and one walk in seven innings.
    Miller paced Heber’s offensive attack, finishing 3 for 3 with a run and RBI, plus 3 stolen bases. Fires (2 for 3) added 2 hits, 2 runs and one stolen base, while Mangum, Bradke and third base player Hali Bish (1 for 2) each drove home one run.
    Bish also scored a run for the Lady Panthers, who led 1-0 after the first inning, 3-0 after the second and 4-0 through four frames.
    Stats not available by press time for the second victory over Robinson (9-4) and the championship win over Bauxite (8-4).
