  • Last Thursday, Heber Springs High School held a job fair for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in the gym on the high school campus.  Spearheaded by Coach Gaye Stark, the fair was held as part of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program.  According to its website, “Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people who are most at-risk.”  JAG has helped nearly over 700,000 kids stay in school, pursue postsecondary education, and secure entry-level jobs.

Local merchants were on-hand to give students information about real world opportunities for part-time and summer employment in our area, as well as careers beyond graduation.  Applications were given out to students and several walked away with jobs by local businesses.  “This is a great opportunity for the kids,” said Stark.  By bringing employers and students together in an informal, personalized setting, it provided students with an opportunity to experience face-to-face skills that will be important for future employment practices.
