  • Next month, the Lions Club will be presenting a Cleburne County tradition stretching back almost 50 years.  The Heber Springs Lions Club Auction will take place live April 10th and 11th to raise money for local charitable events. Lions Club members Lynn Williams and Chris Stafiej stopped by The Sun-Times office to tell us about the event.

‘Our Lions Club Auction will be live on Suddenlink Channel 6,” said Williams.  “We have donations from all around the city and some around the County.  Merchants, businesses, and private individuals donate items to us and we auction them off.  The money that we collect helps us to support glasses, eye exams, hearing tests, and hearing aids.”

In order to watch the auction, viewers must have access to the Suddenlink cable network.  “Suddenlink’s office staff have donated their time to help broadcast the auction for two nights,” said Stafeij.

Some of the items donated for the auction include a remote control helicopter, a two-night stay at one of the local hotels, many gift certificates to local restaurants, eye exams, dental exams, and 1-year veterinarian service.  A full list of the items available at the auction will be published in the Wednesday, April 9th, edition of The Sun-Times.

Money raised by the Lions Club is used to assist residents in Cleburne County, which includes the disaster aid packages given to residents in their time of need.  “The money we raise is used locally,” said Williams.

The auction will take place on the evenings of Thursday, April 10th, and Friday, April 11th, from 6-9:30pm on Suddenlink Channel 6.  Phone numbers to be used in order to place your bids are:  501-362-0952, 501-365-3197, and 501-365-3003.

“If you don’t have cable, go to a friend’s house and watch it,” said Williams.

“Order pizza and make a party out of it,” said Stafeij.
