  • Cleburne County Judge Jerry Holmes proclaimed April to be Alcohol Awareness month last Wednesday.

According to information provided by the Cleburne County Coalition, 31.1% of Cleburne County youth in grades 6,8,10, and 12 reported using alcohol at least once in their lifetime, as determined by a 2013 Arkansas Prevention Needs Assessment (APNA) Survey.  The study also found that 32% of our youth have used alcohol at least once by the time they reach 8th grade, with 11.6% of those having used it at least 30 days prior to the survey.

Of those who reported using alcohol, almost 90% said they used it in their home or someone else’s home. Over 30% of 12th graders reported their parents had a favorable attitude toward the use of alcohol.

The Cleburne County Coalition participates in promoting Alcohol Awareness Month so they can raise awareness about the risks associated with underage drinking.  Youth and parents alike are reminded that it is against the law for anyone under the age of 21 to drink or be in possession of alcohol.
