Heber Springs won two of three games over spring break at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando.
After dropping their opener 5-3 against the Shiplay School in Pennsylvania, the Panthers bounced back with consecutive wins over the University of Chicago Lab School (9-1) and Sidwell Friends School (6-5) of Washington, D.C.
Freshman pitcher Andrew Bradshaw recorded eight strikeouts through six innings in Heber’s win over Chicago Lab School and sophomore pitcher Hunter Chandler tallied four strikeouts in the Panthers’ comeback win over Sidwell.
Chandler, who picked up the win in relief of Dillion Moore, helped his cause at the plate by finishing 2 for 3, including a game-tying 3 RBI triple in the top of the sixth.
“The trip to Disney World went really well and the kids played really well,” said Heber coach B.J. Greene. “We had some kids step up and take some positions while we were in Disney World. We had good pitching in all three games against three teams that were very comporable to us.
“Logan Magness is a kid that played really well at Disney World. Hunter Chandler hit the ball really well. We came closer together as a team. It was good for team building. It was five days of fun for the most part,” added Greene.
In between games, the Panthers had a chance to visit Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, downtown Disney and the Animal Kingdom.
