First Class Benjamin “Jett” DeSoto participated in Relay for Life to honor his mother
First Class Benjamin “Jett” DeSoto, a 2008 graduate of Heber Springs High School and a lifelong Heber Springs resident, enlisted in the Air Force in March 2012 and is now stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. Last June, his mother, also a Heber resident, was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer. She went through a round of radiation and chemotherapy and is still fighting. He hadn’t seen his mother in almost a year, so he decided to try to lift her spirit.
On Friday, April 4th there was a Relay for Life event just west of Pearl Harbor at Kapolei High School. He and two of his Wingmen made tie dye shirts (purple (his mother’s favorite color, teal (cervical cancer awareness color), and pink (for prayers and support) with the words ‘Team Cindy’ on them and together they relayed 15 miles.
He also enlisted the help of his Wingmen to take a photo of themselves holding signs that say ‘Team Cindy’ on them and he got responses from around the world: Alaska, Las Vegas, Georgia, Florida, New York City, the Virgin Islands, and Germany.
