  • Donna Morey, director of Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, met with and spoke to the Cleburne County Retired Teachers Association April 8 at the Rustic Inn.  Dr. Lavern Penn unit president called the meeting to order about noon.  After an invocation and pledge to the Flag, Dr. Penn welcomed members and guests.  A short business meeting was conducted before Mrs. Morey took the floor.

Mrs. Morey is a recent retiree from the Pulaski County schools.  She is involved with Special Olympics and the Arkansas Down Syndrome Association. Upon retirement and completion of a term with the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System as a trustee, Mrs. Morey felt she could help retirees by serving as the ARTA director.  She feels it is her mission to be sure all school retirees are aware of laws and changes that could affect their  retirement checks.  She is concerned about a proposed change to the make up of the Board of Trustees of ATRA. There are still serious issues with insurance for school personnel both active and retired.  She encouraged all school personnel to let their representatives know when an issue arises that could affect ATRS.
Mrs. Morey shared some membership forms for ARTA.  She reminded everyone  that being a member of a local unit does not mean they are a member of ARTA.   Mrs. Morey answered a few questions from members. With no other business, Dr. Penn adjourned the meeting with thanks to Mrs. Morey.
