  • The American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life of Cleburne County honors Arlene Combs, a 52-year cancer survivor, on the occasion of her 69th birthday this Saturday, April 26. Arlene is an inspiration to all who know her. She is the longest known survivor of cancer in Cleburne County, having first conquered the disease at 17 years of age. Since then she has had several more instances of cancer, conquering all of them as well. Each year at the Relay For Life of Cleburne County, a reception is held before the start of the Relay to honor of all cancer survivors. Miss Arlene, with her spunky attitude and cheerful smile, serves as reminder that no matter at what age, when or how cancer strikes; there is hope in conquering the disease. Miss Arlene, the Relay for Life and all of Cleburne County salutes you and wishes you many more Happy Birthday's to come!

The American Cancer Society Relay of Life of Cleburne County is annual 12-hour walk and fundraiser to raise money in the fight against cancer. The Relay begins each year at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening in Spring Park and ends at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. The significance of the all night Relay is to highlight the trials that those battling cancer go through 24 hours a day, each and every day. As the evening rolls on into the night and those participating walk through the park, they are reminded by luminaries of those who are battling cancer, those who have survived cancer, and those who have lost their battle with the disease. In the coming months, Relay teams will be hosting fundraisers in support of this cause. We encourage you to support the efforts of these dedicated teams as they raise money to put an end to cancer.  If you are battling cancer, or are a cancer survivor, or someone who has lost a family member or close friend to the disease, and would like to join in this effort, please call Laurie York at 870-668-0312 or Marilyn Wright at 501-352-5101.  Mark Your Calendars! This year’s Relay For Life of Cleburne County will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, in Spring Park. Come join the Relay teams and Miss Arlene as we FIGHT to find cures for ALL Cancers!
