  • Sheriff Marty Moss announced in a letter to members of the Cleburne County Quorum Court that he is resigning as Cleburne County Sheriff to pursue other career opportunities.  Moss opted not to run for re-election to another term in office, which resulted in a virtual crowd of candidates seeking the position this fall.
Moss’ resignation before an elected replacement could take office left the Court in the position of naming an interim sheriff to serve out the rest of the term.  Chief Deputy Alan Roberson will be appointed as Cleburne County Sheriff to serve out the rest of the term.  The official transfer of office will take place May 23 at 7am.
“I appreciate Marty’s service to the County and am looking forward to working with Alan, who will be appointed as Sheriff for the remainder of the term,” said County Judge Jerry Holmes.
The following is an excerpt of the resignation letter delivered to the court by Sheriff Moss:
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to tender my resignation as Cleburne County
Sheriff. As I look toward the end of this my last term, I am presented with an opportunity
that is extraordinary for my family and has precipitated my early departure from this job
that I love. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this unforeseen change may create.
It has been one of the most profound and humbling honors of my life to serve as Cleburne County Sheriff. I have taken great pride in serving the citizens of Cleburne County and have worked diligently to make our county a safe and better place. I would like to thank the Quorum Court for the unwavering support that has enabled me to carry out the duties of Sheriff. The employees of Cleburne County Sheriffs Office are hard working, professional and caring. I have enormous confidence in the ability of these dedicated servants that will continue to watch over and protect this wonderful county.”
