The Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Security and Emergency Preparedness awarded Cleburne County $7,500 in grant funds for security cameras. Supreme Court representatives and Court Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Pete Hollingsworth presented the ceremonial check for the funds Monday at the District Court in Heber Springs.
Forty-nine applications were received, seeking $868,930.61 in grant funds. The Committee had only $250,000 to award. Twenty-four counties’ projects were chosen. Awards ranged from $500.00 to $15,000.
The Arkansas Legislature, via Act 576 of 2007, created the grant program. Money is appropriated specifically for city and county governments to implement court security and emergency preparedness measures. The Act was codified as A.C.A. § 16-10-1006 and requires the Administrative Office of the Courts to allocate the funds.
