The official start to spring is just over a week away, but organizers for annual Springfest activities have been in the planning stages for some time. Some events overlap, so make your plans accordingly to attend as many as possible.
The first events to kick off the 2010 festival will be held Friday, April 23 in downtown Heber Springs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with an art walk, Taste of Heber, and music at the courthouse.
“The Art/ Photography Walk will be held downtown at several businesses,” said Melisa Gardner, community relations director for the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce. “Attendees can pick up a program for the event that night and have it punched at each location for a chance to win door prizes.”
A popular event is the Taste of Heber, which gives people a chance to taste food from several area restaurants. “This will take place at the same time as the walk downtown and will be held at the First General Baptist Church located just off Main Street on Second.
“The cost for the Taste of Heber is $5 for adults with children 12 and under getting in for free.”
While strolling Main for the art and photography walk, let the kiddos stop by Third Street for some fun. “Children’s art and music activities will take place.”
Dana Leigh and Moore will perform at the courthouse square until 7:30.
Be sure to stick around the courthouse for the Chair Art Auction at 7:30 p.m. with Auctioneer Frank Orr. At 8 p.m., names will be drawn for the Art/ Photography Walk door prizes.
Rest up Friday night for a day of events on Saturday; starting at 9 a.m. and running until 6 p.m., there should be something for everyone to enjoy.
The Mountain Top Volkswagen Car Show will start at 9 a.m. at Spring Park and a car and bike show will take place on the courthouse lawn with registration beginning at 9:30 and the show time will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Spring Park will be busy from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be arts and crafts, live entertainment at the band shell, a butterfly pavilion, a Springfest parade at a 11 a.m. with first, second, and third place trophies being awarded, a pizza eating contest at noon, and the Take the Lake 5k at 6 p.m. at Dam Site.”
Sunday will mark the end of Springfest 2010 with arts and crafts and live gospel music beginning at noon. Be sure to bring the kids all weekend, including Sunday. “Ronald McDonald will be at the park until about 4 p.m.”
Keep looking to the Sun-Times for additions made to the Springfest schedule.
