Brett McElroy drilled two homeruns in one inning and Brody Verser added a 2-run dinger as the Eagles crushed Rose Bud 17-1 on Thursday in Rose Bud.
West Side took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Cody Barger singled and stole second then scored on an RBI off the bat of Josh Bittle. Andrew Harness, West Side’s starting pitcher, worked three scoreless frames while the Eagles tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the third.
Matthew Patch reached on an error to get the Eagles started then Barger walked and Bittle roped a hit-and-run RBI single that scored Patch and Barger also came around to score on a throwing error, giving West Side a 3-0 advantage.
In the top of the fourth, the Eagles blew the game wide open with five runs, including a two-run homerun from Verser. The Ramblers scratched out a run in the bottom half off Hunter Wolfe, who pitched a scoreless fifth to pick up the win.
In the top of the sixth, West Side extended its lead to 17-1 with nine runs, including a three run-homerun and solo homerun from McElroy. Austin Kirkland pitched a scoreless sixth, ending the game.
West Side traveled to Arkansas Baptist in Little Rock for two games over the weekend and split with a 12-2 loss to Conway Christian and 17-3 win over Little Rock Hall.
The Eagles also beat Quitman 5-3 in eight innings on Monday, improving to 5-1 for the season going into Tuesday’s game versus Nemo Vista in Center Ridge.
