What is your superpower? Spiderman slings webs; Superman can fly; Iron Man has a bionic heart; and Captain America displays super strength. The value of a superpower in this world is immeasurable, especially for the youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Saturday, July 8th, nearly 400 youth ages 14-18 met at the Maumelle Recreation Center to increase their spiritual power through group activities and peer speakers. Youth spent hours strengthening relationships with participants within a 4 hour radius by interacting in several team building games. Then they joined together to listen to personal spiritual messages from their peers’ experiences with the scripture verse James 1:5-6, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.” The event was capsulized after dinner with a casual dance in the gymnasium where the youth enjoyed each other’s company and continued sharing in the powerful light that radiated from the experiences of the day. The light in the eyes of the youth as they discovered new friends and new insights to the gospel principles illuminated, not like an average superpower, but a spiritual power to share the knowledge of Christ with a world that needs saving. Future events for the Latter-day Saint youth are being planned to continue this tradition.
