The true gauge of a community is not the wealth of its citizens, its aesthetic attractiveness, or ingrained traditions. No, if you really want to get a clear assessment of the soul of community, you have to look at how much its residents give back, and Cleburne County has repeatedly been recognized for its nonprofit endeavors, volunteer efforts, and willingness of neighbors to help other neighbors in need.
While the goals and practices of nonprofits are noble, its a simple fact that they cannot reach those goals and help those in need without financial assistance from government and private donations. In an political era when future government assistance for community help may be spotty at best, donations from private individuals are more important than ever.
To help raise those funds for our friends and neighbors, many nonprofit organizations that service Cleburne residents are participating in ArkansasGives. ArkansasGives is a statewide effort by the Arkansas Community Foundation encouraging people to give to their favorite local charities. The event is an online fundraising event taking place Thursday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“It’s one day, one easy way to give for Arkansans,” said Heather Larkin, President and CEO of Arkansas Community Foundation. “ArkansasGives helps nonprofits grow the love. Money raised online on April 6 fuels missions that improve the lives of neighbors in need and boosts community efforts.”
According to information provided by the Arkansas Community Foundation, donors can choose one or more of their favorite nonprofits and make a donation of $25 or more using their credit or debit cards. Participating nonprofits are also eligible to earn bonus dollars from a $400,000 bonus pool provided by the Community Foundation on top of the donations they receive online.
