Julie Murray, Executive Director of the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce was the presenter at the July 11 meeting of the Rotary Club of Heber Springs. The focus of her presentation was the newest planned promotional publication of the Chamber. “Heber Springs Life” is a publication that has been three years in the making. Targeting vacationers, retirees and people seeking to relocate to the area, the booklet will consist of 32 pages and be in full color, showcasing our area beautifully. It will be distributed statewide in all fourteen of Arkansas Parks and Tourism’s Welcome Centers.
The last relocation guide published by the Chamber came out in 2003, Murray said, so the area was far past due for an update. In addition to distribution by the Welcome Centers, the new publication will allow the Chamber to respond to the many inquiries they receive every year from those seeking to vacation, retire or relocate to the area. It will be a great asset to the community, and will also be available in area hotels and restaurants as well for visitors to our town. Heber Springs Life will be available for distribution by mid- to late-August.
Ms. Murray also used the opportunity to speak of the collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce and the Heber Springs Downtown Network. The two organizations have worked together very closely to focus promotional efforts on the downtown district, because, she said, “The vibrancy of downtowns affects both business recruitment and quality of life for our city and a healthy downtown is an indicator of a healthy and growing city.”
Upcoming events planned for downtown include two more “First Friday Downtown” events on the first Friday of both August and September, a “Pre-Party” on the Friday before the World Champion Cardboard Boat Races, a promotion focused on “Tax-Free Weekend” the first weekend in August, and the yearly Christmas Open House planned for the first weekend in November.  Ms. Murray encouraged Rotarians to keep up with Chamber and Downtown events by visiting the Chamber of Commerce website at www.heber-springs.com and by liking the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Heber Springs Facebook pages.
The Object of Rotary is "to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise." The Rotary Club of Heber Springs meets each Tuesday at noon on the ASU-Heber Springs Campus.
