It was a perfect day for area basketball teams in the first round of the White County Invitational Tournament held at Bradford Monday night, with Rose Bud’s varsity girls and both Quitman senior high basketball teams taking victories, as the Lady Ramblers annihilated Bradford 63-17, the Lady Bulldogs mauled Newport 59-30, and the Bulldogs drummed Augusta 75-51.

The Lady Ramblers coasted to their third consecutive victory of the young season, outscoring the host Lady Eagles 43-3 over the course of the second and third quarters. In those sixteen minutes, Rose Bud knocked down five three pointers, eight free throws, and a combined nine jumpers and layups. Savannah Lacy led a trio of double figure scorers for Rose Bud (3-0) with 12 points. Jenna Hipp and Monce Jasso both added 11 apiece. The second-seeded Lady Ramblers, whose largest lead of the contest came in the final quarter at 60-9 after Skylar Wise drained a triple, advanced to the semifinals and will play the winner of West Side and White County Central tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.

The defending 2A state champion Lady Bulldogs picked up their fourth win over a larger school and eighth overall after knocking off the Lady Greyhounds in a game that saw junior Nicki Hooten score 21 points, all in the first half. Classmate Alyssa Harrison contributed six points. Hooten connected on five layups and scorched the net on three shots from beyond the arc, outscoring the entire Newport team by herself, who ended the first sixteen minutes with 13 points. Top-seeded Quitman advanced to the semifinals and play the winner of Rivercrest and Augusta tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs are winners of 21 of their past 22 games, a run that reaches back into last season.

Senior Brandon Heffentrager pumped in a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs, who set their season-high for points in a game while outscoring the Red Devils 16-2 to end the second quarter after being down 29-21, never relinquishing the lead after obtaining it. Heffentrager scored 23 of his 29 in the second half, converting on numerous putbacks and three-point play opportunities. Senior Devyn McVay clocked out with 12 points. Junior Jalarin Briscoe led the way for Augusta (0-3) with 17. Senior Jayden Lee and junior Trevon Rucker added 16 and 10 points, respectively. Second-seeded Quitman advanced to play the winner of Rose Bud and Newport in the semifinals tomorrow night at 8:15 p.m.
 
The White County Central Bears won the first boys after drilling Bradford 65-37. Garrett Finley was the leading scorer for the Bears with 13 points. Cody Cook scored 9 for the Eagles. White County Central will battle the winner of Rivercrest and West Side tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
