In a press release dated August 24, it was reported that on August 22, 2018 Northstar EMS and Cleburne County Deputies responded to the Oaks Apartments in Heber Springs regarding a 911 call for an unresponsive infant. When responders arrived, they made contact with Casey Warren, the infant’s father. The infant was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and later transferred to a Little Rock hospital where the infant died from sustained injuries. After reviewing medical examinations and interviewing involved parties, Casey Warren, 30, of Heber Springs, was arrested and charged with one count of First Degree Murder.
Since this press release The Sun Times received the affidavit for arrest which gave more information on the case. According to Dr. Elizabeth Rigsby, the ER doctor who initially examined the infant, informed the investigator that the infant suffered from bleeding to his brain caused by trauma and possible skull fractures. On August 23 the infant passed away from his injuries. Arkansas Children’s Hospital Pediatrician Dr. Karen Farst, a board certified child abuse expert, opined that death was a homicide caused by Shaken Baby Syndrome. Arkansas State Crime Lab Medical Examiner Dr. Jennifer Forsyth informed investigators, in her expert opinion, the autopsy was consistent with the physical exam information determined by Arkansas Children’s Hospital, including a spot on the back of the infant’s head forcefully hit against something. Additional medical information including radiological exam results and final autopsy results are pending.
Warren is being held in the Cleburne County Jail on $250,000 bond.
The investigation is still ongoing.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
