The annual Santa Run drive for toys and non-perishable food for the needy was held on Saturday. The ride began at Red River Dodge in Heber Springs and ended at the Drasco Trading Post in Drasco. Well over 150 motorcycles from north central arkansas, representing at least 14 motorcycle clubs and many not affiliated with a club showed up with toys. Santa Claus even rode up on a motorcycle to lead the way.
Riders United for Children, Fire Monkey Five-0-One, Combat Veterans Association, Teamster Horsemen, Warrior Brotherhood, Iron Riders, Arkansas Lone Wolf, Iron Order Arkansas, Next of Kin, Moose Riders, The Punishers, American Coppers Goldwing Road Riders Association and Live to Ride motorcycle clubs were all represented at the event. At one point they had two bucket brigade lines going to load the National Guard truck with all the toys they donated. After the toys were loaded into the truck, they were taken to the American Legion Post 64 for distribution to needy families.
Arkansas American Legion Riders prepared hamburgers and hot dogs for the bikers as they filled up a National Guard truck with toys and food to benefit community families.
The 39th Bravo Company Army BSB held their Christmas Dinner at the American Legion and were on hand to unload the truck when it was brought to the Legion to be distributed to needy families. The Drasco Trading Post provided drinks, chips and fixin’s to go with the burgers and hot dogs.
The toy drive is connected each year to the “Fill the Sleigh” project. Santa’s Wish is helps distribute the gifts.
