A single stretch of driveway will be one-way traffic only beginning tomorrow at the Heber Springs Schools.
As a safety precaution administrators have agreed the area between the water department facility and the elementary playground will only be for northbound traffic. “We will soon start our building project for new classrooms and the construction company will take up some of the current parking and driveway,” said Russell Hester, superintendent. “When the construction does start, we would have to make the area one-way traffic and we wanted to start off the year as such to get parents used to the new traffic flow.”
The plan is: Traffic from Pine to the drive on the north end of the old gym will be both directions, but traffic from the drive leading from the northwest corner of the old gym to Front Street will only be northbound. “This will allow students to exit on the passenger side and not have to dodge other vehicles coming from the north. Parents can also go behind the old gym to drop students off behind the elementary as they have done in the past.”
Police will be on hand to help make the transition as smooth as possible. “Drivers will not be allowed to turn off Front south onto the drive between the water department and playground,” said David Smith, police chief. “We will have officers working the area to help keep traffic going in the right direction.”
Hester said, ““Parents will have to enter the campus from West Pine on the south side of the high school and exit on the north end of the campus onto Front.”
The new traffic flow will only be during school hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
