Cleburne County Cares’ Annual Christmas Project for 2008 is set to kick off today! We expect to provide Christmas for approximately 400 children and 25 senior citizens this year. This program has grown tremendously since it’s beginning in 1987. Cleburne County Children ages from birth through 12 years are eligible for this program, along with indigent elderly Cleburne County residents who have no family to provide for them at Christmas time.
Children are given new clothes, toys, a book telling the Christmas Story, Christmas treats, dental hygiene items, and to promote literacy a book based on their reading level. Senior citizens are provided with sleep wear, toiletries and other items. The recipients are carefully screened to determine true need. Every effort is made to see that Christmas items are provided for each child. Applications are available at the Cleburne County Cares office and must be turned in at the office by Wednesday, December 10. No applications will be accepted after that date.
The 2008 Christmas Project will be chaired by Phyllis Stephens and Doris Palmer of Heber Springs and administered by members of the community-at-large on behalf of Cleburne County Cares. Many willing hands and much financial help are required to make this successful. Monetary donations may be mailed to or dropped off at CCC, Inc., 2016 Hwy. 25-B North, Heber Springs, AR 72543.
This annual project is only one of the services provided by Cleburne County Cares. CCC volunteers work year round operating a food pantry, a thrift store, transitional housing, as well as offering scholarships for Cleburne County residents who are low income or single heads of households and need more education to enter the job force.
This is a real opportunity for the community to make this a nice and meaningful Christmas for children and elderly persons who have special needs. We all know that CHRISTMAS IS FOR KIDS - please help us to make it special for those in need this year.
