Heber Springs Fire Chief Linc Cothren notified Mayor Jackie McPherson that he is currently staffing a fire station on Saturday nights. The current shift is a 12 hour shift and the pay is the standard $25 per each call. Chief Cothern will add a second shift of ten hours by two part-time firefighters at a rate of $8.25 per hour. Cost estimated for the entire year will be $15,840. Funds to pay personnel wages will come from the fire equipment fund which is the outside fire dues account. Chief Cothren expressed in a letter to the mayor “As the city and fire district becomes more populated, the need for station staffing becomes greater due to the considerable decrease in response times. This is a good way to move toward future full time staffing without depleting the cities funds.
