William Carl Garner added another prestigious award to his long list of accomplishments Tuesday night when he was named to the Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Honor. Space on the hall of honor is reserved for those that go above and beyond with their leadership and volunteering in Heber Springs and the state of Arkansas.
During the award presentation a slide and video show was played for the audience. The photos showed Garner through his career at the Corps of Engineers and the video contained tribute segments from several individuals including Congressman Marion Berry and former President Bill Clinton.
This was the 10th year for the award.
Other big awards given Tuesday night went to: Arlene Anderson who received the Chamber’s President’s Award from Todd Schroeder for her dedication of time spent with the chamber; Jo Price presented Ina Brown (who is retiring from the chamber) with a tribute award for her dedication to the chamber as a volunteer and an employee; Gary Redd presented a Governor’s Volunteer Award to Chad Evans for his 20 years of volunteerism for the chamber; Ina Brown and Arlene Anderson presented CK Rhodes a Governor’s Volunteer Award for his eight years of service to the chamber; and Geraldine McCurry received the Distinguished Citizen Award given by the legislature and presented by Representative Lance Reynolds.
Other events of the night included entertainment by The Gardner Family, a live auction, guest speaker NFL Referee Walt Coleman, and passing of the chamber president role from Todd Schroeder to Carol Johnson.
