A public hearing for a proposed water and sewer rate increase will precede the monthly meeting of the Heber Springs City Council Thursday night. The public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting at 6 p.m.
On the agenda is the discussion of the suggested 2009 water and sewer rate increase. The increase request by the Heber Springs Water Department has been a talking point at recent meetings and will increase the rates over a three-year period.
In new business, is the possible approval of a bid of $93,450 for the east fire station at the corner of Hwy 110 East and Hwy 210 East. Michael Galloway turned in the low bid. After a thorough check, it was determined that all specs pertaining to the plans had been met.
The council may also approve an ordinance providing for the condemnation and removal of houses, buildings, and/ or structures that fall into a special criteria. The ordinance is in the hands of the council.
At a recent council meeting the aldermen and woman agreed to hire an assistant to the treasurer and administrative assistant to the mayor. A job description has been delivered to the council and they are expected to discuss the proposed responsibilities of the position.
A federal-aid project resolution is also before the council. The resolution “expresses the willingness of the city of Heber Springs to utilize federal-aid monies for the installation of a traffic signal at Hwy 110 (Main Street) and Hwy 25 (Second Street)”.
The final item on the agenda includes Tammy Hayes addressing the council in regards to wanting city water to her home on Harbor Hill Road.
