The Pangburn Elementary School had a special visitor Wednesday. The Toothbrush Fairy visited the
pre-k, kindergarten and first grade classes to tell them all about tooth care.
Pangburn School became part of a pilot program last year. Students in pre-k and kindergarten were
given waterless toothbrushes through Delta Dental to be used after lunch. This year, the school added
the first grade to be part of the program.
Though they were in the program last year, this is the first year the Toothbrush Fairy came for a visit.
Karen Martins with N-Sta-Smile, makers of the prepasted mini disposable toothbrush used in the school,
put on her wings and tiara and taught the students all about the sugar bugs and how to brush them away.
Martins began as the Toothbrush Fairy last February for dental awareness month, visiting schools in Jonesboro
and Pine Bluff.
According to David Minor, a representative for N-Sta-Smile, their goal is to get toothbrushes on all the
lunch trays in schools across the country. The business, located in Hardy, ships toothbrushes to schools
all over the country. “We are working on finding funding to go into more schools,” Minor said.
The Pangburn students enjoyed the visit of the Toothbrush Fairy, even helping her to say goodbye to
the sugar bugs.
