What would be your reaction to supporting some common sense measures that would express the beliefs of most Christians and non-Christians in Cleburne County?
Prohibit illegal aliens from receiving any state benefits except in instances of emergency.
Ban any law that requires or demands that Arkansans buy health insurance. This is to protect us from the nasty tentacles of Obamacare.
Emphasize and protect the rights of doctors and other health providers not to participate in medical procedures that are against their basic beliefs. This would include abortion, artificial insemination and euthanasia.
Deny illegal aliens in-state university tuition rates. We are currently subsidizing illegal aliens attending state colleges by our tax dollars.
A provision that would bring growth and jobs to our state by exempting certain capital gains. The objection, “Oh, we can’t do anything that will reduce state revenues.”
Demand that the state report to its citizens the cost of implementing and sustaining Obamacare.
Ban abortion beyond the time fetuses are thought to feel pain – generally 20 weeks, unless the mother’s life is in danger. And related to this those that perform abortions be required to check if the fetus has a heartbeat and so inform the pregnant mother.
Allow home schoolers to try out for extra curriculum activities including athletics at their public schools. After all, the parents of those home schoolers are paying taxes to educate the other kids. Why shouldn’t they have the right to participate?
These ideas or proposals are all bills that were submitted in the last legislative sessions by Republican lawmakers and defeated by our Democrat friends in the House and Senate. In most cases these bills were defeated in committee where Democrats are still in control and won’t even allow the full legislative body to vote.
This information was taken from a column by Mike Masterson in the Arkansas Dem-Gaz and was based upon the just concluded legislative session.
As noted in this column while this years Senate and House leaders and Governor Beebe were celebrating 35 million dollars in cuts, the celebration was a farce. Why? Because these “cuts” were to the Governor’s proposed budget not to the current budget. As it now stands we have an actual increase of 117 million and if the Governor had his way that increase would have been some 152 million of tax dollars paid by Arkansas taxpayers.
Not covered by Masterson’s column was another bill submitted by a Republican in the Senate but rejected by Committee Chairman Senator Sue Madison, Democrat from Fayetteville.
This common sense proposal by Kim Hendren provided that voters would have to show election officials a state or federal identification document with photo. Our Democrat friends said this would discourage voter turnout. Not so, based upon similar rules in other states. Indeed testimony said it would make voting easier and faster and would eliminate different standards for identification in various precincts.
So typical of our liberal friends they want so desperately to be politically correct, they would rather ineligibles vote rather than challenge or question those that may be fraudulently attacking our voting rights.
Our state has been controlled by the good ‘ole Democrat boys for so long, it was upsetting to Governor Beebe and others that the Republican party had the nerve to actually challenge some of the history of one-party rule.
If we can continue the trend so powerfully established in the 2010 election, we have a chance to convert this state to a true two-party system in 2012. Our Southern state neighbors have realized for quite some time the ideas and ideals of Republicans fit more closely to most Arkansans’ beliefs and especially so in Cleburne County.
Who knows, we may even discover a number of closet type conservatives that believe in less government and less restrictive government but were afraid to express themselves openly.
If you have kept up with the Arkansas legislative session just completed, you will note our Representative Josh Johnston and our Senator Jason Rapert have been prominent in representing our views. In fact two of the beliefs stated earlier in this column were based upon bills submitted by Senator Rapert.
I urge you to contact both of these gentlemen to let them know we appreciate their work and their efforts.
If you disagree with their positions, that should also be expressed, but hey! that has probably already been accomplished. History has shown we are more liable to complain as opposed to showing approval of the actions of our elected representatives.
Thank the good Lord for our Arkansas constitution that we adhere to a balanced budget. If not, with the Obamacare lovers promoting more and more expenditures our state would be similar to the budget at the national level, and like other states be precariously close to bankruptcy.
