Patricia Blankenship passed away January 21, 2017
Patricia Blankenship passed away on January 21, 2017 in Heber Springs at the age of 90. A graduate of Wynne High School, she completed her nurse's training in 1947 at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. She was Public Health Nursing Administrator for Cleburne County from 1968 to 1981 and Public Health Nursing Supervisor over 10 counties from 1981 to her retirement in 1988.
Pat worked tirelessly to improve the health of Cleburne County residents, growing the health unit from 2 rooms in the County Court House with herself and one clerk to the present health department facilities and programs. She was an early advocate for mental health services in Arkansas and remained active on the regional Mental Health Board into her late seventies.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael Hunter of Middlesex, New York; WIlliam R. Blankenship of Ft. Worth, Texas and Bruce Blankenship of Heber Springs, Arkansas and granddaughter Anne Hunter of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 201 N. 4th St, Heber Springs or the Humane Society of Heber Springs, 104 S. 4th St, Heber Springs.
