Mary 'Frances' Black passed away October 31, 2017

Mary “Frances” Black, age 77 of Higden, AR entered heaven’s gates on October 31, 2017.  She was born February 18, 1940 in Forrest City, AR the oldest daughter of Jim & Lorene Howard.  She spent nearly 50 years in California, growing up in the Bakersfield area and raising her 5 children in Chowchilla, CA where she and Ernie Black, her husband of 47 years lived and worked prior to moving in 2000, to their beloved home in Arkansas.  

Frances spent the last chapters of her life racking up air miles, attending weddings, family reunions, and checking off many things on her to do list that included: Hawaii 3 times, Graceland, Branson, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma and Texas.  She vey much enjoyed the history, music, local festivals, natural beauty, and friendly people of Arkansas.  She was devoted to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and served faithfully through the food pantry and “card ministry” at Greers Ferry First Assembly of God.  Frances thrived on hand made gifts, not resting until every family member and friend was given a token of her love, be it knitted, crocheted, painted, sewed, beaded or grown from her beautiful yard.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Ernie Black Jr., Jim Black, and daughter Sue Yancy.  Frances is survived by her three children, Treva Black, Sharlet Briggs, and John Black; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 7 siblings, and dozens of precious cousins and dear friends throughout the U.S.    

There will be two celebrations of life services for Frances:  November 18th from 1-4pm at Hodel’s in Bakersfield, CA and December 2nd, 1-4pm at Greers Ferry First Assembly of God.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Frances to Greers Ferry First Assembly of God, 50 Victory Lane, Greers Ferry, AR 72067.
