Edith 'Wanda' Copeland passed away April 23, 2018

Edith 'Wanda' Copeland went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2018 at the age of 94 in Modesto, CA. She was born in Pangburn, AR on June 13, 1923. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Thurman D. Copeland. They resided in Modesto CA upon his return from the Navy in 1945 and in the same home since 1950 where they raised their family. She is also preceded in death by her father Almos Gentry, mother Celia Crafton Gentry, sister Betha Lee Gentry, brother George Gentry, all of Arkansas, sister, Juanita Knaffle of Texas, sister Gay Pope, of California and her son Dr. Gary Allen Copeland of Tuscaloosa, AL.  She is survived by her daughter Joyce Copeland Clark and her husband Brian of Modesto, CA, Grandsons Jason Copeland and his wife Susan of Las Vegas NV, Joshua Copeland and wife Tabitha Turri of Toney, AL, Granddaughter, Morgan Copeland McCorkle and husband Isaac McCorkle of Parker, CO, 3 great grandsons, Isaac McCorkle, Jr., Allen Copeland McCorkle and Captain Zander Turri-Copeland, and 2 great granddaughters, Danica McCorkle and Gwendolyn Turri-Copeland.  She is also survived by her brother Horace “Len” Gentry of McAlester, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. After marrying the love of her life in November 1942 and then sending her husband off to WWII, she moved from Arkansas to California in 1943 to be near her parents and siblings who had moved earlier to California to find a better way of life. She found a job at Sharpe Army Depot as a Supervisor and was there for 10 years until her son was born. She then became a housewife and homemaker. She was known for her great cooking, big heart and her great soprano singing voice. She sang with the Mothers of Note for 40 years. She was also very active within her church, Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church of Salida, CA. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Bethel Assisted Living for their compassion and care.  Franklin and Downs will be serving the Copeland Family. A Graveside Service will be held on May 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Acacia Memorial Park.
