Joseph “Everett” Flowers passed away June 16, 2018

Joseph “Everett” Flowers, 69, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, surrounded by family at his home in Quitman, AR after a lengthy illness.

Everett is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Sue (Milligan) Flowers; his four children, Dena McDaniel, Jason Flowers, Robert Flowers, and Sarah Goodwin; three brothers, Marvin Flowers, Ray Flowers, and Allen Flowers; and one sister Deborah Jones; as well as seven beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Barmore) Flowers; his father, Larance E. Flowers; his brother, Larry D. Flowers; and his sister, Carolyn Sue Liles.

Everett was born on July 26, 1948 in Ruston, LA to Larance E. and Helen (Barmore) Flowers. He was the eldest of seven children. Everett was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and landed in Vietnam on his 21st birthday, July 26, 1969. He served as a machine gunner and an RTO (Radio Telephone Operator) with Company D, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry, 1st Cav Division. During his exemplary service in Vietnam, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Everett was an avid hunter and fisherman and an active and proud member of the NRA. He was always generous in sharing his hunting, fishing, and gardening skills with his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed cooking and eating with family and friends.

Before his passing, Everett said that he had a good life and that he wanted his family and friends to gather and celebrate his life.
