Laymon Alton Nelson of Doddsville, Miss., died August 14, 2010, at the Regency St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss. Born in Higden on November 15, 1945, he was 64. He was the son of the late Laymon Edward and Gladys Marie (Tackett) Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Downs Nelson of Doddsville, Miss.; two sons, Eddie Nelson and Matthew Nelson, both of Arkansas; three daughters, Tammy and Amanda, both of Arkansas, and Karen of Missouri; two stepchildren, Shannon Fike of Shelby, Miss., and Tiffany Smith of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Ronnie Nelson of Arkansas; and four sisters, Wanda Fay Floyd, Jeanette Sanders, and Connie Allen, all of Arkansas, and Teresa Lawrence of Florida. He is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services were held August 17 in the Olmstead Chapel with Bro. Bob Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Higden-McLehaney Cemetery. Danny Floyd, Quintin Nelson, Lee Smith, Randy Sanders, Dustin Nelson, and Ben Tackett served as pallbearers.
