C. J. “Sis” Caviness, age 95, of Heber Springs, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Southridge Village Nursing Home. Born in Hazen on September 21, 1914, he was the son of the late Tom and Carrie (Goacher) Caviness.
A resident of Heber Springs for most of his life, Mr. Caviness was a retired painter. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved to garden.
Mr. Caviness was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Caviness, and daughter, Vee Elizabeth “Toodie” Steadman.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia “Bobsie” McAlister and her husband, Dan, of Dover; his friend, Ara Lou Holley of Heber Springs; four grandsons, Jim and Mike Steadman and Darrell and Doug McAlister; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Caviness is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Charle Cayton and Rev. Tommy Toombs officiating. Interment will follow in the Heber Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
