After this last week with all the alleged sexual assault charges flying, I have begun to wonder what happened to innocent until proven guilty? It would seem that these days you are guilty until you can prove your innocence. Have you ever tried to prove your innocence? I do not know if the accusers of Brett Kavanaugh are telling the truth or not. But, I would like to ask them how is it that their memories of an incident 35 or more years ago are so clear? Don’t give me the spiel regarding it was a traumatic event. I have had more than one traumatic event in my life but 35 years from now I doubt I’ll have a crystal clear memory of it. Also, when you are drunk, your memories will not be crystal clear. Lastly, if it was so traumatic, why did it take you 35 years to come out about it? We have started trying cases in the court of public opinion and on the 6 o’clock news instead of in a courtroom with a judge and jury. Whatever happened to evidence? Without evidence, it is merely a he said, she said trial.

I am appalled at the behavior of people who have taken sides when they don’t even look at evidence, or the lack thereof. It’s very easy to stand up and say something happened 35 or more years ago without anything to back the allegations up. You may think I am taking Kavanaugh's’ side. That would be untrue. What I would like to see, is people looking for evidence. I can’t imagine how his family must feel during all this. About an incident that supposedly happened 35 years ago.

Looking on social media tonight I was amazed at some people who suddenly accused Kavenaugh of raping the woman in question. On the reports I’ve seen she said he “groped” her. Now groping is a far cry from rape. I am not trying to diminish any victim of rape or sexual assault. In face, women who falsely accuse make it harder on women who are truly victims. Why is it so easy for people to believe someone who waits 35 years to mention the alleged assault? Frankly, I can barely remember what I did yesterday, much less 35 years ago when I was drunk at a party. I can also say that if I had gotten attacked I would have went to the police and have a rape kit done and I wouldn’t rest until the person who attacked me was prosecuted. I certainly wouldn’t wait 35 years.

Does no one have a brain anymore? The more I watch the news and social media, the more I think the answer to that question is no. Or if they have one, they don’t know how to use it. Why do people think it’s ok to ruin someone else’s life with lies and innuendo? I don’t want this to be misunderstood and I don’t necessarily believe that Kavanaugh is innocent. I do think that it needs to be proved. I also would like answers as to how someone’s memory could be that clear about an incident so very long ago. I’d also like to know what is this person getting out of it? The first accuser says he changed the direction of her life. Considering she is a doctor, it makes me wonder where her life was going if she has it so bad as a doctor.

On a personal note, as a woman, I know that if I were attacked, I would speak up now and not wait 35 years. If you didn’t speak out for 35 years, what were you waiting on? Oh, right for a situation such as this, where you can get your 15 minutes of fame, write a “tell all” book (the truth as you see it). By waiting 35 years to speak up you aren’t just hurting who you are accusing, but his wife and family, and yourself as well. You are also hurting every woman who is assaulted because people won’t want to believe her, thanks to false accusers. When we start listening to accusations that have not been proven, and in fact, no one has seen any proof, no evidence, not even circumstantial evidence, that the event happened, we are not having justice. We are spitting on our own constitution which has safeguards in place to prevent innocent people from going to jail from being falsely accused.

Until next time...
