A while back I read a book entitled “How to Survive on a Toxic Planet” by Dr. Steve Nugent. The toxicity of planet earth was and is very discouraging, (I was depressed) and because of the statistics I’m reading-I’m sure it hasn’t gotten any better.
Yes, we know our water, food, air, ground and everything around us is toxic and polluted. I don’t know about you, but I am a survivor. So here goes.
What’s a person to do? A person who is proactive does everything he or she can to be healthy and improve the health and wellbeing of his/her family.
First, we would want to eat healthy whole foods, not fake ones, or ones that just look like foods but are filled with more chemicals than nutrients. You know- foods that are picked from a tree or vine, washed and eaten. Yes, that sounds easy, and it is. If you can find them you would want to get organic and locally grown, that have been allowed to ripen on the tree or vine, without chemicals-if possible.
Since we are talking about nutrition here, it is important to supplement our foods with whole food nutrition. Never use anything synthetic. Make sure it is standardized, tested and actually has what it says on the container. That’s called intelligent supplementation.
Second, we want to drink plenty of pure, filtered, clean water. There are filters you can have installed in your homes which would cut down on plastic bottles being sold. Plastic has its own set of problems, and toxicity too. There are even more options, such as a carafe water purifier.
We are very fortunate to live in country surroundings so we don’t have as much contaminates in the air, but we do have more than we need. So, it is also intelligent to have good air-purifiers in our homes. (not just filters) I’m sure everyone has heard of sick building syndrome. And we all probably remember Legionnaires Disease, from the ductwork of an infamous hotel. A good air purifier can be used to clean even contaminated ductwork. Just email me and I’ll be happy to explain how.
Just this past week someone from one of my classes asked if we need to detox going into a program such as mine. I said yes. Of course I don’t just mean when we begin a specific program.
Now, when do we need to detox? That’s a very good question and there is no one answer for every person.
It has been said that “Death Begins in the Colon.” The facts do support that statement.
Don’t believe it? Ask any coroner. Autopsies often reveal colons that are plugged up to 80 percent with waste material. You could be plugging your colon with years of waste and years of poison.
Now, just what determines how often you would need to detox?
You do. Do you eat healthy most of the time? Do you eat whole raw foods high in water content and fiber? Do you use drugs and medications? Do you drink cokes, either with sugar or with artificial sweeteners? Do you eat foods that are less than whole, maybe processed with chemicals in them? Are you constipated? Do you have intestinal issues?
As you see, there are so many variables. I don’t know what you do, but you do, —at least if you are aware. It pays big dividends to be aware.
If using a detox, , make sure it is completely natural -without any chemicals. You have enough chemicals in you already. Also, there are some natural elements that are too harsh or cause problems. I never use any brand names in this column, but, if you get in touch with me I can give you a couple of suggestions, or my own recipe of what you may use-if you wish.
“According to the Royal Society of Medicine U.K - 90% of all chronic diseases are due to infection of the gastrointestinal tract”
They had much to say on this subject, but I do want to include the following:
The colon is a sewerage system, but by neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal we are well and happy; let it stagnate, and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation and putrefaction, into the blood, poisoning the brain and nervous system so that we become mentally depressed and irritable; it will poison the heart so that we are weak and listless; poisons the lungs so that the breath is foul; poisons the digestive organs so that we are distressed and bloated; and poisons the blood so that the skin is sallow and unhealthy. In short, every organ of the body is poisoned, and we age prematurely, look and feel old, the joints are stiff and painful, neuritis, dull eyes and a sluggish brain overtake us; the pleasure of living is gone.
Have I got your attention yet?
The preceding information should impress you with the vital importance of bowel regularity for you and every member of your family.

Although no particular diet is needed for these programs to work, eating healthy foods is always a good idea. To review-you would need a diet containing plenty of organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds complement these programs very well. (depending on your genetic type) Try to avoid or minimize red meats, cured meats, organ meats, and of course refined foods, canned foods, sugar, salt, unhealthy fats, coffee, alcohol, food additives, colorings and preservatives, as well as nicotine while cleansing.
Actually you should eat and live healthy all the time.
I want to add one more thing. Detoxing can be uncomfortable. Yes, uncomfortable. As you remove years of buildup, you need to realize
that certain things that might occur in some people while their bodies are trying to expel toxins would include fatigue, headaches, bloating, cramping, skin irritation or redness, etc. If you experience any of these symptoms, please do not panic as this is normal while doing a cleansing program. Unfortunately, the more toxic one’s body is, the more uncomfortable the cleansing may initially be. But rest assured that these symptoms don’t last for more than a couple of days, and usually once they pass, the person feels better than they have ever felt before.
Should you experience discomforts or side-effects other than the normal signs of detoxification, including an allergic reaction to any of the herbs, please discontinue the use of your program immediately and contact your health practitioner if needed.
As you can see, there’s much to do to ‘Survive A Toxic Planet.’
Remember, you are worth the time, effort and investment. Yes, you and those you love too.
