Haiti will still need aid years to come
Dear Editor:
The problems brought on by the Haiti earthquake on January 12 will last beyond our individual lifetimes. After this year’s initial shock and generous giving, the years ahead will grow dim and caring concerns will diminish. We can better remember Haiti in future years if we associate the earthquake with Martin Luther King’s birthday, which were six days apart.
On the next King’s birthday— and the next—and the next, it would seem appropriate to ask ourselves if we have continued to “remember Haiti in our prayers and extend hands, insuring their survival and progress.
They didn’t choose the predicament they’re in, but with our caring commitment they can turn the corner for a better world ahead. And yes, each of us as well.

Arkansas lady supports Haiti
Dear Editor:
There is a charity for Haiti that was founded by an Arkansas woman 30 years ago. In the early 80’s, Frances Landers of El Dorado made a mission trip to Haiti as a volunteer on a medical mission team. The village where she was had no school. She returned home and began raising money from church women’s groups as she told her story. The money was used to support the construction of schools in Haiti’s southern mountains. The schools are managed by the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. Over the last 30 years, 50 schools have been built and over 10,000 students enrolled yearly. $55 supports a child for one year for school, books, and meals. 100 percent of each gift through her Haiti Education Foundation is for the children of Haiti. For more information about the charity, write: Haiti Education Foundation, 1801 West Block, El Dorado, AR 71730.

Are casinoes next
Dear Editor:
Just as I predicted when the lottery was shoved down our throats, casino gambling must be next. How did I know?
I was listening to the news Friday evening and sure enough, they are getting ready to legalize casino gambling just as soon as they get the law change on the ballot. I’m sure it will pass, even though everyone will say “I didn’t vote for it”. I still haven’t talked to anyone who admits to voting for the lottery.
Arkansas is the third most religious state in the U.S. If you, like myself, think gambling is just wrong, stand up and be counted. Don’t let us become another “mob boss” state. God knows we have enough evil to deal with now.

NBC a lesson to learn?
Dear Editor:
Is there anything we can learn from what is happening to NBC? Their ratings have been dropping and every move makes it worse. I was a loyal viewer of NBC. I remember the Gore/Bush controversy and my dad saying he wished he could tell who Matt and Katie were for. I told him they’re journalist and won’t reveal their views-oh how things change, now journalist brag their goal is to change the world. I actually heard a preacher predict this. I don’t know about that but clearly see them telling us what THEY consider popular/good.
With newspaper/magazine ratings also dropping whether it’s the Internet or not I challenge all journalist to ask yourself how often you consider if you’re presenting good or bad news? Of course murder is bad and rescue is good but how often do you first consider what the majority will think? Do you inject creative opinion when you think it’s safe (on the right side)? Do you keep your opinion to yourself when you’re not sure? In a small town it’s called clicks but in a country it’s called a cultural movement.
I’ve watched Fox News enough to know they’re as one sided for conservative as NBC is progressive yet their ratings soar. This seems strange if you consider how close elections are. What I think happened is NBC thought they were choosing the majority and at the time maybe they were but now they’re finding out they leaned toward an audience that isn’t what I’d call the fabric of this nation meanwhile others were fed up with the spin.
Recent polls tell us the majority of Americans don’t consider themselves a liberal. Most are interested in THEY can do (not government) to help, which proves to be unfortunate for NBC. They can say conservatives can’t/don’t read or whatever they want but the fact is the majority of liberals/progressive don’t care therefore if you insist on considering public opinion I’d suggest lean to those who care about the truth, it will always be the majority in the end.

Citizens at fault for elected officials
Dear Editor:
I have received the following from several e-mail contacts.  None have known the origin, but it is said better than I could say it, and I heartily commend it.
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”
I am very happy to know that most in our County did not vote for Mr. Obama.  It is sad that some in our County (the fool fool-supporters referred to in the e-mail quoted) do support him and belittle people of faith – the very sort of people who founded this country and made it great.
Please join me as I pray for the fool, Obama, and his fool supporters.  Obama, after all, is a paranoid schizophrenic who will one day soon show his true colors and “lose it” big-time.  He came close after the election of a Republican to replace the poor Demorat driver, Sen. Kennedy.
Now if only the rest of the country will wake up and replace many more of the demagogues who are now in office!  Seems like Arkansas is making a good start in the right direction for that to happen.  If only the replacements are truly better than those replaced!
As for me, I’m still waiting for proof that Mr. Obama is not an illegal alien.
Lord, please forgive us and help us through this perilous time.
