In these days of wild and illogical thinking it is imperative to stand back, analyze the comments and opinions and then simply enjoy the raw humor that is presented.
A published article from the Rhode Island “Journal-Bulletin” by Froma Harrod is a good place to start. This article is probably not unique but is typical of the sympathetic media that is trying to protect the sorry state of Democrat politics.
This columnist is proclaiming that the upcoming ethics trials of two black Congress persons may actually be good for the Democrats. Her convoluted logic says this proves their leader, Nancy Pelosi, is showing great leadership by not protecting both of these suspects – Congressman Charles Rangel and Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
She explains that Nancy is so non-political she is allowing these ethics charges to proceed even though it may damage the solid voting block of blacks for Democrats.
Ms. Harrod fails to mention that the charges for Mr. Rangel have been brewing and stewing for years. In 2008 Pelosi announced the charges against Rangel would be settled in January 2009 and some 20 months later the water is finally starting to boil. No doubt Pelosi now has little choice since the ethics panel is comprised of five Democrats and five Republicans.
It’s difficult not to have sympathy for the octogenarian Rangel who has been accused of some thirteen violations of ethics and IRS rules.
It is ironic indeed that this man is in charge of directing our income tax rules and regulations and similar to our treasury secretary and many other members of the Obama Administration, they evidently believe abiding by the income tax laws is for the other guy.
Maxine Waters is simply a piece of work. This is the same congresswoman who publicly declared all big business should be socialized, owned and directed by the Federal Government. When her socialized rant was televised at a congressional hearing, even her aides were hanging their heads in shame.
This delightful California congresswoman is now accused of attempting to obtain TARP money for a small bank where her husband was on the board and a major stockholder. About a year ago she demanded a meeting with then Treasury Secretary Paulson complaining she represented various minority banks that were being unfairly treated on the bank bailout program.
When Paulson reluctantly agreed to the meeting, he discovered the only representatives in attendance and the only bank discussed was Mr. Waters’ bank. How do you like that for pure unaltered greed and corruption? And of course, Representative Waters claimed she has done nothing wrong, only representing her constituents back home – especially her home.
If this little episode doesn’t give you the chuckles, try this attempt by columnist Gail Collins which appeared in The New York Times on Thursday August 5th.
She was attempting to put a spin on the recent votes by Missourians to go against the Federal mandate of buying health insurance. She says surely they were aware that this proposition is almost certainly unconstitutional and enforceable - as if all Missourians were too dumb and stubborn to understand.
Now here’s the good part – she proclaims that Missourians would evidently prefer to get medical care from emergency rooms than by insurance. Then get this quote, “Maybe it’s time to re-think the single-payer plan now that we have evidence that
71 percent of Missourians support the concept of socialized medicine.” Does The New York Times not have an editorial staff to weed out statements and conclusions that are preposterous? No wonder the ‘Old Grey Lady” is in serious trouble.
Another columnist wrote that these recent troubles just indicate that the Democrats are just now trying to catch up to the Republicans concerning graft and wrongdoing. This columnist pointed to the problems of the late Republican Senator Ted Stevens.
He was accused and convicted of failure to disclose thousands of dollars in gifts from oil company executives.
This columnist, like many others, failed to mention the final chapter of this episode. In April of 2009 the Justice Department voided the conviction of Mr. Stevens.
So when Nancy Pelosi announced her reign as the “Lady of the House” would be the most ethical ever and she would drain the swamp, she forgot to consider the snakes and crocodiles might rise from the dry swamp and indeed eat her alive.

On August 11th the leader of the senate, the very honorable Harry Reid, said, “I don’t see how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.” In his home state of Nevada a Republican Latino is running against Reid’s own son for public office. Could it be he is overwhelmed by his own prejudice?
