More trophies were added to the Greater North Arkansas Racquetball Association’s collection after the 16th annual Duboise Electric Pro-Am tournament held April 14-15 at Fort Smith.

Kevin Feeler of Quitman used a 2-1 record to finish second in men’s D singles. Kim Owen of Rose Bud finished third.

Feeler and Owen pieced together a 2-1 record to finish third in mixed doubles. It was their second year to play mixed doubles at the state event. Also competing was the team of John Swan of Heber Springs and Lisa Toms of Lakeview.

Dennis Bartlett and Darren Gowen, each of Heber Springs, finished third in a seven-team field of the men’s B/C doubles event. They started with a first-round win, before losing to the eventual champions in the second match. They secured third with a win in the consolation bracket. Gowen and Bartlett, who recently won a tournament in Fayetteville, also competed in the men’s Open/A doubles division.

Gowen finished third overall as the consolation winner, playing in men's C singles. He beat players from Missouri and Oklahoma in the opening two rounds. Gowen then lost to the eventual champion, who didn't have to play the final match, thanks to a double forfeit.

More than 50 players, including pros, from eight states competed in what is usually the biggest annual tournament in Arkansas. The event is sponsored by Langston Drug Store.

Bartlett's 3-1 record was good enough to win the consolation bracket of men's C singles. After dropping his opening match, he used a forfeit and wins against players from Hackett and Fayetteville to win.

Up next for the local players will be a ladder tournament challenge at the Heber Springs Community Center. The next statewide tournament is a May 19-20 singles event in Ft. Smith. Persons interested in participating are invited to play from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the community center. More information can be obtained by calling 501-362-5186.
